The surrounding area is classic Mid Wales. Newtown itself is a market town with independent shops and cafes. The Stiperstones National Nature Reserve is 20 miles away and Powis Castle's Grade II-listed gardens are under 13 miles. Walking trails start right from the doorstep.

The nearest railway station is Newtown (Powys) which sits on the Cambrian Line with services from Birmingham and Shrewsbury. From the station it is a short taxi ride to the lodge.
